Wicked, the global musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, will continue its major U.K. and Ireland tour, opening at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre on the16th September 2014. Tickets will go on sale on the 31st October 2013 at 8.00am for personal callers at the Box Office, with online and telephone bookings from 10.00am.
In a brilliantly witty re-imagining of the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked has music and lyrics by multi-Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, musical staging by Wayne Cilento and is directed by two-time Tony Award winner and Olivier Award nominee Joe Mantello. Wicked is based on the acclaimed novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire.
Wicked has already been seen by over 38 million people around the world and has 9 productions running concurrently. The original Broadway production remains “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times) where it is now in its 10thAnniversary year. The West End production is now in its 8thyear and will shortly celebrate its 3000th performance.
