Contemporary Circus Company Casus Visit The Black-E‏ This November.

Having wowed the crowds at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Australia’s new contemporary circus company Casus arrive in Liverpool with their stunning premiere work, Knee Deep this November.

Four performers explore the boundaries of strength and tenderness. Bodies are pushed and pulled, weighed and tested, probing the limits of both physicality and feeling. In Knee Deep, unlikely bonds are forged and acts of intimacy co-habit space with thrilling physical feats, as the audience is invited to re-imagine notions of limitation. Throughout this journey, the artists demonstrate that delicacy does not necessarily equate to fragility, although it is often a fine line to tread.

Casus combines the talents of former Circa and The Flying Fruit-Fly Circus performers Emma Serjeant, Jesse Scott and Lachlan McAulay, with Polytoxic’s Natano Fa’anana to create a bold and captivating performance style of breath-taking and beautiful displays of skill.

Casus Company Manager and performer Emma Sergeant said, “I am completely thrilled to be able to present Knee Deep in my native town of Liverpool. When I was growing up in the 80s, Liverpool was a rough and ready type of place and I know it has changed a lot! To be able to perform and engage with the youth of Liverpool is an honour and a dream of mine.”

Casus will perform Knee Deep in The Black-E main performance space on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th November. The Black-E are also offering free circus skills workshops to young people aged 7-14 on Monday 4th, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th November from 4pm-7pm. People interested in the workshops should have an interest in acro-balance and circus skills or be already involved in gymnastics and can register at The Black-E in advance.

Maria Paul – Assistant Director, Leader and Creator of the Youth Circus said, “Casus is one hour of non-stop physical connection between four people using their bodies in dynamic and experimental ways, reaffirming the strong relationship between the cast. The strength of the female artist was a standout, equally as impressive as that of her male counterparts. It is also wonderful that they are connecting with our local youth”

The main space in The Black-E is the perfect setting for Casus to perform Knee Deep as it is configured for in-the-round performances and its high ceiling makes it perfect for the aerial work such as silks and trapeze with spectacular views from the balconies.

Tickets for the performance are priced at £8 for adults, £6 concessions, £20 for a family of 4 and £10 for balcony standing. To book call 0151 709 3789, go online at http://www.theblack-e.co.uk or book in person at the Philharmonic Hall Box office.
