2012 was a momentous year for Gina Yashere. She witnessed the triumph of the London Olympics – O.K., from her couch in Los Angeles, but she still has much to say. She’s discovered that she’s a closet O.C.D. sufferer and, most momentous of all, she was forced to purchase reading glasses. You better believe she has a lot to say about that.
Gina Yashere: Live! is a hilarious twenty four-month round up like you’ve never heard before and a rare chance to see one of the U.K.’s favourite female comics live in action, catch her at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre on Wednesday 23rd October.
A former lift engineer, Gina made her comedy debut at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996 and went on to sell out shows in the U.K., Japan, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Europe and America, where she has been living for the last few years. She reached the final 10 on N.B.C.’s Last Comic Standing and has since gone on to appear on various American shows such as The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Def Comedy Jam (HBO), Comics Unleashed (ABC), and a regular appearance as a crap psychic on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (N.B.C.). She has also had her own one hour stand up special airing on Showtime.
On this side of the pond, you will have seen Gina on everything from The Lenny Henry Show to Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Celebrity Fame Academy and, most recently, Don’t Sit in the Front Row and Celebrity Come Dine With Me. She also played a principle role in I.T.V.’s Married Single Other in 2010. Her movie credits include Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Mr In Between, and she has starred on the West-End stage in The Vagina Monologues. After losing 5 stone, Gina released her critically acclaimed D.V.D. Skinny Bitch in 2009 and Laughing to America, recorded in 2012 at the Brava Theater Centre, San Francisco, to a sold-out audience, will be her follow-up DVD.
