This coming September a production by new playwright Bill Snell will be making its way to The Lantern Theatre following a successful run in North Wales.
Sweets For My Sweet tells the story of two young lovers Billy and Mo who work in a 1970s Liverpool sweet factory (Bill Snell himself worked in Barker and Dobson) and this time the production will be performed in support of the Roy Castle Lung Foundation.
Billy is in his early 30’s, he’s been going out with Mo for years, an arrangement which suits him but Mo decides he needs to make a decision either their getting married or she’s moving on. Life gets more complicated for Billy, a shop steward, when he has a confrontation with the foreman and he is left wondering if he will keep his job. Mo is also under pressure, her mother is terminally ill and she wants to tie the knot while her mum can be at the wedding.
The mood is kept light with a series of funny set pieces involving the amusing characters and their comical jobs at one stage we meet the buttered Brazil girls known as the “dippers” who are not hitting their targets.
The play has been very well received with the audience enjoying the characters, the Tamla Motown soundtrack and the typical Liverpool banter which adds to the comedy.
Tickets for Sweets For My Sweet are priced at £10 with concessions available at £8. Tickets can be purchased by telephone on 01517030000 or going online at www.thelanterntheatre.co.uk. Sweets For My Sweet will be on at The Lantern Theatre on September 6th and September 7th.
