Eddie Cooney, Moirai. E.P. Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 7/10

Liverpool’s Eddie Cooney is the perfect example of a musician who doesn’t let life get in the way of achieving what he sets out to do, regardless of the employment that pays the bills; there is always time to go after your dream. There are certainly those who could do a lot worse than listen Mr. Cooney and realise this and look at their own potential. For Eddie though the music he has been inspired to record for his E.P. Moirai is enough to suggest that this hugely likeable man and artist keeps also inspiring others, for surely that is what he has done over the course of the five tracks.

What the listener gets when they drink in the words and it has to be said, ethereal like calmness punctuated with gutsy precision, is a set of music that one that is able to give them the slight edge of chills; the soul searching innocence that everybody strives for in their daily pursuit of knowledge and enjoyment and the after effect of a set of songs that lift the heart as you follow them through to the end course.

Mr. Cooney has enlisted some excellent talent for the E.P. including the sensational Barry Briercliffe, Alison Patterson, Josh Cartwright and Ben Warburton and one the three main tacks Follow The Moon, For the Love of Horses and the intriguing Light Pollution, Eddie’s vocals stand out as being as good on record as they do when captured live, no mean feat as the man is a delight when caught in his natural habitat of a venue infront of an eager crowd.

The two extra songs are a surprise but they work so well in the framing of the E.P. that to dismiss them would be an injustice and as a wonderful aside the instrumental version of Follow The Moon and the separate piano vocal of the same track play well and certainly the instrumental version gives an added layer to the overall song.

In a world where too many say they would like to do something creative but never follow through, Eddie Cooney shows that it can be done, done well and be very enjoyable. A huge nod to this busy man.
