Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP) are taking on Kenneth Grahame’s well-known tale, The Wind in the Willows but if you think you know the plot, be prepared to be surprised as a cast of 80 young people bring this timeless children’s story to life within the grounds of Croxteth Hall from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th July.
This version of the story has been adapted by James Phillips, with conventional perceptions changed and roles reversed to bring the play into the 21st Century. While the much-loved characters of Toad, Badger, Ratty and Mole remain, this contemporary vision incorporates themes of social class, hierarchy and a struggle for power as the Weasels rise up. The question though is who will be victorious?
Set in the beautiful grounds of Croxteth Hall, this outdoor performance will take in five different locations in an ambitious promenade performance that is sure to be magical experience for all the family.
Following in the footsteps of Papertown at Camp and Furnace, The Wind in the Willows will be YEP’s second production of the year. Having previously taken on large-scale warehouse productions and promenade pieces such as You Are Being Watched and Excuse Me?, YEP bring their remarkable storytelling abilities to the rolling lawns and great outdoors of this unique setting.
Young Everyman Playhouse member Lewis Bray said: “The play is an exciting opportunity as it has really stretched us as actors. It has allowed us to play in promenade which is also challenging the way we think about playing the characters and I cannot wait to transform the grounds of Croxteth Hall in to the wild world of The Wind in the Willows!”
Tickets for this performance are available from the Playhouse Theatre Box office on Williamson Square, by telephone on 0151 709 4776 or online at www.everymanplayhouse.com. Tickets are priced at £4 and £6.
