The Lantern Theatre Liverpool is a fantastic fringe theatre set in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area, dedicated to bringing the public the best in fresh talent and new writing.

Since taking over the venue in October 2011, mother, daughter team Margaret and Siobhan have had the pleasure of accommodating acclaimed theatre companies such as Red Ladder, Tin Shed and Organised Chaos, all of whom have loved performing in the space. They have also developed as a great venue for brand-new theatre companies, giving them a kick-start into their careers and into the industry.

Not only do they accommodate theatre companies, but also musicians and comedians. Recently critically acclaimed comedians Nick Revell and Lee Camp, stopped at Lantern Theatre Liverpool as part of their country wide tour Transatlantic Fury. The music nights at Lantern Theatre Liverpool always go down a treat and are a fantastic chance to relax and enjoy the best of local talent.

Lantern Theatre’s main priority is to provide a platform for emerging directors, actors and writers to produce exciting new work with their support. Contributing towards the local community has always been important to the theatre. They aim to provide the public with opportunities to engage in art projects and events. Already running an ambassador scheme, in which students from the local universities can volunteer at the theatre helping with front of house duties, general admin and box office.

In return they get to see how a theatre is run, they can network with touring companies and they also get a chance to use the space for free for one of their own projects. As well as this the Lantern Theatre Liverpool also hosts summer schools, a writer’s forum, storytelling workshops and Melting Pot (a monthly jamming session for musicians, rappers and beat boxers). They also welcome general volunteers the opportunity to gain more experience in the arts.

With no public subsidy, Lantern Theatre Liverpool relies heavily on the support of their generous friends and for as little as £4 a month, their visitors can get involved too! The launch of Lantern Theatre Liverpool’s friend scheme allows visitors to sign up and donate to the theatre and in return, the theatre will give them fantastic offers and rewards they can’t refuse! The scheme is split in to three tiers with affordable options for your everyday theatre lover and higher tier memberships for corporate companies.
