The Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival maybe one of many celebrations that take place in the city during the year, however it feels like one of the most welcoming, most diverse and certainly interesting to all those that have travelled many miles, some who travel thousands, to call Liverpool their home for the best part of 10 days and nights of scintillating Arabic culture.
Founded back in 1998 by the Liverpool Arabic Centre and the Bluecoat, the first festival took place in 2002 and this year has all the hallmarks of being bigger and better than ever.
The festival was launched with great elegance and enthusiasm by Mr. Taher Qassim M.B.E., the current Chair of the L.A.A.F. Board., and with special intoxicating music from Arabic artists such as Dewam, it was no wonder that the opening speech was greeted so enthusiastically by the huge audience.
There is so much to take part in over the next ten days, for anyone who has not gone along before the chance to enjoy new and spirited music, dance and documentaries is a rare treat and one that should be savoured and understood for the appreciation of Arabic culture. With events going on in various venues over the city till Sunday 16th, it isa chance to take in the Liverpool sunshine and dream of dusky shores and the sound of something new and exciting.
