Pam And Ann On The Pisste, Theatre Review. The Liverpool Actors Studio Theatre.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 7/10

Cast: Lesley Hughes, Veronica Kelly, Richard Helm.

There is no better way to spend bingo winnings than by taking a small holiday abroad and trying something new such as skiing and enjoying breakdancing with a close friend. The long expectant journey filled with word play and the fragrant smells that emanate and waft from all the fellow passengers that share the travelling with you. Or in the case of Pam and Ann, abroad is Aviemore, breakdancing is of the Scottish variety and the toilet and shower are out of order and as for the smell from the passengers…All in evening’s work by comedy duo Undercover Blondde and their play Pam and Ann On the Pisste.

Undercover Blondde are Lesley Hughes and Veronica Kelly, two women who genuinely go out of their way to make sure their audiences get as many superb word play gags, interesting situations and above all they do it with a smile on their face and a song in their collective hearts. Pam and Ann On the Pisste sees the pair, alongside guest star Richard Helm who stepped in manfully after actor Al Kossy had been taken ill in the last few weeks, take the idea of two women who are off on adventure and no matter what ski lifts, wanting a bigger size bust and an amorous yet lonely Scotsman with a plunger can throw at them.

Lesley Hughes and Veronica Kelly certainly get enough laughs, the word play, the mistaken ways in which the conversation flows is very enjoyable and raised a huge laugh in all the right places time and time again, especially from Ms. Hughes who excelled in the part and rose to the occasion admirably. An enjoyable evening but with the suggestion that there could have been more from the situation, the laughter was there, it just needed that edge, a slight turn to make this comedy stand out and be as gracious as it attempted incredibly well to achieve.

A nice and amusing way to spend a couple of hours and for those that enjoy their foreign holidays, avoiding the cold and damp, the lack of amenities and sleeping with feminine hygiene products under the pillow then head to Greece. For those that like a little sparkle and some good laughs as part of their holiday, it is worth checking out this comedy package.

Undercover Blondde’s Pam and Ann On the Pisste is on at the Liverpool Actors Studio till Saturday 11th May.
