On April 26th Only Child, one of the great bands that typify 21st Century music in the city of Liverpool are to be joined by a string quartet as they headline Liverpool Music Award’s Nigh of the Year, Liverpool Acoustic at the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street.
Having supported the likes of Miles Hunt from The Wonder Stuff, Steve Pilgrim, Ian Prowse of Liverpool’s Amsterdam and Gemma Hayes, Alan O’ Hare has taken his place amongst the great musicians of the city and his poetic style of writing is reminiscent of Roger McGough.
“The idea for Only Child crystallised for me at an acoustic gig at View Two,” reveals Alan. “Our bass player, Vanessa Murray, also recently won the Liverpool Acoustic Challenge and I met Jon Lawton of Crosstown Studios through Liverpool Acoustic – and we now record all our music with him.”
Only Child are half way through the recording of a debut album too which follows on neatly from the E.P. that was launched at Leaf on Bold Street. “It’s going great and another step on from the E.P.,” continues the musical poet with the fantastic voice. “There are new instruments introduced into the mix – flute, sax, drum machines, rain sticks and a set of my best songs. The violin and strings will remain at the heart of the record though and that’s why we’re bringing the fab Liva String Quartet back to play with us on April 26th.”
It promises to be quite a night. “There will be up to nine of us on stage at any one time. I make music to be brought to life by a connection with other people. I can’t wait to hear what happens above the din of Mathew Street…”
