A whirlwind of glitz, glamour and family fun is forecast to hit the St. Helens Theatre Royal on March 30thand last until 7th April bringing audiences an ultimate Easter eggstravaganza in pure panto style. Due to popular demand Regal Entertainments are bringing back their wizardly wonderful production of the timeless classic which will take theatregoers young and old over the rainbow and down the yellow brick road…..that’s right, it’s the welcomed return of everyone’s favourite tale, The Wizard of Oz.
When a terrifying tornado hits Kansas, Dorothy’s home is flung far and wide and crashes down in Munchkin Country in the Land of Oz. Click your heels together three times and join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, Lion and of course little Toto on their journey through the magical land of Oz, encountering friend and foe along the way, to meet the fabled Wizard of Oz, the only man who make all their dreams come true. But watch out as Eva the Evil Witch and her minions are out to stop them!
As those who are familiar with Regal Entertainment’s productions will expect, a glamorous gathering of Theatre Royal favourites has been brought together to tell this classic tale. Under the watchful eye of Radio City presenter and panto queen Claire Simonsen as Gloria the Good Witch, a number of Theatre Royal stalwarts are back in for this enchanting production including Coronation Nick Cochrane as Scarecrow, Simon Foster as Lion and Charlie Griffiths as Eva the Evil Witch. After a show stopping performance in last year’s Easter panto local girl Leah Murphy is stepping into Dorothy’s fabled ruby slippers and local actor Mark Allen will be wielding the hatchet as Tinman. Rounding up the ensemble are Harriet Rainford as Glinda and Aunt Em plus Jason Bacon as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
Packed full of songs and side splitting laughs, this whirlwind production is sure to put a smile of even the grumpiest of munchkins as they rediscover the real story of Oz in this fantastic show, perfect for all the family.
Tickets for The Wizard of Oz are priced at £8 (Family tickets and concessions are available). Performances are at 1pm with three evening performances on Saturday 30th, Sunday 31st and Monday 1st April only are at 5pm.
