Electro-pop icon Alison Moyet has achieved sales of more than 20 million records, both as a solo artist and half of the hugely influential duo Yazoo. In May this year she releases her first studio album since 2007, the minutes was written with and produced by Guy Sigsworth, known for his work with Frou Frou, Robyn, Björk, Goldie and Madonna. It finds Moyet’s voice strong and seductive on a collection of exceptional songs. Experimental, captivating and entirely cohesive, it clearly indicates a new artistic lease of life and could be seen as arguably her most creatively-brimming album ever.
To celebrate this new release Ms. Moyet has also announced a series of dates in Ireland and the U.K. which starts in September in Cork’s Opera House, takes in venues such as Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, Rhyl’s Pavilion Theatre and Salford’s Lowry before coming to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on October 25th.
The woman who as part of Yazoo released the iconic album Upstairs at Eric’s in 1982 and followed that up with You and Me Both in 1983 before embarking on a successful solo and stage career which includes the number one 1984 album Alf, the comeback album in 2002 Hometime and the top 40 album from 2007 The Turn. Moyet’s new music has subtle parallels to her synth-pop past, but is also bang up-to-date, taking in elements of R&B, modern club sounds and electronic experimentation. This concert places the minutes centre stage and also focuses on the significant electronic material in her back catalogue. The album’s first single release is out April 1st and is titled When I Was Your Girl.
