“Any life is made up of a single moment, the moment in which a man finds out, once and for all, who he is. I have imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.”
Jorge Luis Borges
Idle Motion debuts at Unity Theatre with Borges and I, their stunning Total Theatre Award nominated devised piece of physical theatre, on Thursday 14th March.
Borges and I is a piece of visual physical theatre that explores the life and work of Argentinean writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899 – 1986). One of the most influential authors of the 20th century, Borges tragically went blind towards the end of his life as he became Director of The National Library of Argentina. He is widely known for his fascination and obsession with books, writing imaginative stories conjuring forth images of labyrinths, tigers, mirrors and a universe of libraries.
Idle Motion bring these evocative stories to the stage through the use of multimedia, inventive staging, 200 books and a haphazard book group in which a couple meet through a shared love of literature.
Idle Motion was formed in 2007 and is an Associate Company at New Diorama Theatre and Oxford Playhouse. The actors work closely as an ensemble to create devised shows through workshops and improvisation. Their filmic style is highly visual, creating bold theatrical images on stage with strong narratives and creative use of props and movement. Their previous productions The Seagull Effect and The Vanishing Horizon were much acclaimed.
Tickets for Borges and I are available from the Box office, by telephone on 0844 8732888 or online at www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk. Tickets are priced at £10 with concessions available at £8.
