After scoring a sell-out run on International soil in Norway, John Graham Davies’ critically acclaimed show, Beating Berlusconi! returns to home ground when it plays the Epstein Theatre Liverpool for a limited run from the 5th – 7th April. Former Brookside bad boy Paul Duckworth returns in the true, but bizarre story of how Mark Radley, a reds fanatic fulfilled the dream of any devoted Liverpool fan by charming his way to a seat next to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (helping himself to free bubbly and salmon along the way) in the A.C. Milan Directors Box at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul in 2005. When Liverpool fought back from 3-0 down to equalize, it almost ends in a fight with the increasingly irritated Prime Minister.
Human chameleon Paul Duckworth has astonished both audiences and critics alike in this one man, thirty character show which chronicles forty years of the very best (and worst) moments from modern British history – Hillsborough, the anti-Thatcher riots, the Iraq War – it struck a chord with football fans across the nation, becoming a true Scouser’s odyssey. Beating Berlusconi! started in small modest venues around the city and has now taken the nation by storm, crossing international borders and delighting audiences in Scandinavia, and an Italian production planned in Rome.
Delivering the emotion of a working class city wrongly accused, Beating Berlusconi! is a lump in your throat comedy which shows you don’t have to be a football fan or a Scouser to enjoy this hilarious tale. Beating Berlusconi! is a story of laughter and tears and one man’s attempt to rediscover his belief in himself, his club, his city and his class.
Tickets for Beating Berlusconi! are priced at £8 and £12.50. Tickets are available from the Box office on 0844 8884411* or online at www.epsteinliverpool.co.uk*
