As part of the new exciting breed of Liverpool music that has flowered and blossomed since the turn of the century, Sir John Mandeville have created a buzz that is hard to ignore and on Friday March 8th they will performing at The Lomax on Cumberland Street. The night will also be based around the launch of their E.P.
They may be Liverpool, born and bred but are influenced by rock heavyweights like Free, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Humble Pie, Deep Purple to Crosby Stills and Nash.
“Don’t get me wrong we also like new music” explains singer John Harrison “I really love Queens Of The Stone Age. I saw them play at the Academy in Manchester, just when they were about to become huge. They totally blew me away.”
Sir John Mandeville are; John Harrison (23) lead vocals/ bass/ mandolin/ acoustic guitar & percussion, Phil Hopkins (19) keys/ sax, Chris Mitchell (21) lead/ rhythm guitar, Peet Walsh (23) lead/ rhythm guitar/ vox/ piano & acoustic guitar and Danny Groom (21) on drums.
The band has just finished recording the tracks Don’t Call, Sick and Tired and The Fool for their debut EP which will be released in time for the Liverpool date on Friday 8 March at the Lomax.
For Sir John Mandeville (SJM for short) top of their list is to create a party atmosphere at their shows, a celebration. “It’s about who we really are as individuals and that is five guys who belong on stage and will never stop playing hard rock n’ roll to the day we die” says singer John “We pull out all the stops visually and musically, from driving charismatic drum solos to epic riffs with soaring guitar solos. The music is honest and has a lot of heart. There are so many different dynamics we can go in and there are strong lyrical messages throughout our material. We like to think we give the people what they want and their money’s worth. When they come down to our show, I can safely say they won’t go home disappointed. Dare I say it? It’s all killer and no filler.”
Tickets for Sir John Mandeville are priced at £3 on the door. You can learn more about the band on Facebook at sirjohnmandevillemusic or twitter@SirJMandeville.
