A slice of Spanish life comes to Liverpool on Sunday 17 February as Juan Martín, celebrated maestro of the flamenco guitar, is heading to The Capstone Theatre to deliver a powerhouse performance of modern flamenco music and dance. Juan will be performing his own compositions surrounded by the finest musicians and dancers for one fabulous night with the Juan Martin Flamenco Dance Ensemble.
Juan, alongside dancers Miguel Infante and Raquel de Luna, vocalist Amparo Heredia, percussionist Chris Karan and with Paul Fawcus on flute and clarinet, create an ensemble which is at the vanguard of modern flamenco – a unique style of music that succeeds in embracing classical, jazz and modern harmonies. Simultaneously creating an innovative, exciting production whilst upholding the great dancing tradition, Juan’s concert includes a range of original compositions along with authentic music. The guitar and singing coming together to create an explosion of fiery passion and raw energy that finds expression through dazzling displays of dance and seductive Spanish style
As celebrated virtuoso of the flamenco guitar who Guitar Player magazine voted into the top three guitarists in the world, Juan is a native of Andalucía, the birthplace of flamenco and has recorded a massive 18 albums. His original method book El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra is in its eighth print and has opened the intricate art of the flamenco guitar to the whole world and is assiduously studied from Moscow to Beijing to San Francisco and back to Spain. It is now considered to be the ‘bible’ of flamenco guitar method. Juan has recorded with the likes of the Royal Philharmonic and performed with many iconic artists including Miles Davis.
